Let’s chat about the benefits of drinking lots of water before your 3D/4D ultrasound!
Staying hydrated during pregnancy increases your energy, reduces swelling throughout your body, decreases constipation, and lowers your risk of preterm labor and urinary tract infections.
We ask that you be adequately hydrated weeks prior to coming in for your 3D/4D ultrasound. There is a big difference in the 3D images of well-hydrated women, compared to those that are not drinking enough water! The very best time to schedule your 3D/4D ultrasound at Sneak-A-Peek Imaging is between 27-30 weeks (34 wks is the cutoff).
YES, you will be making frequent trips to the bathroom when you increase your water intake! If your urine is pale in color or colorless, you are definitely drinking enough water. It’s recommended that you drink at least 8-12 glasses of water a day. In the warmer months you will need to consume more!
I understand that sometimes it may be difficult to drink water. So try increasing your fruit and vegetable intake, add lime, lemon, or mint to your water, and avoid caffeine! I know things like juices, PowerAde, and sodas are calling your name, but try your best to ignore it!!
Being dehydrated can lead to low levels of amniotic fluid and cause the baby to miss out on vital nutrients! Dehydration can also lessen the production of breast milk! Other symptoms of dehydration include tiredness, headaches, dark urine, and kidney stones!
Drinking water is essential to the health of your baby! As your baby grows in size, space is limited! By having lots of great amniotic fluid, and baby being in a nose up profile position, we strive to get the very best images of your baby!
